The artwork explores water in its many forms. It is a celebration of the artist’s hand, making marks and interpreting the movement and flow of the water’s many facets, using light and texture. The use of mixed media encapsulates water in all its forms.

The exhibition represents an enquiry into the mechanisms of drawing, focussing on its inherent processes of communication through sign and symbolic marking, and re-iteration through translation and transmutation. Works draw from, ‘placial’ aspects such as topography, cartography, mythology, history and sensory perceptions, whilst evolving through interconnections and the embodiment of various material forms.

After working as an architect Rod returned to his passion for art as a graphic designer and illustrator. This led on to rediscovering his flair for drawing and painting in all its forms. Rod is a polymath with a number of strong styles. He loves to produce detailed art from the natural world as much as big graphical statements for the modern era. Rod has spent much of 2009 exhibiting at events where he will demonstrate drawing in charcoal and painting in acrylic. He latest series uses the theme of black and gold.

I have been painting in various mediums all my life and now specialize in Abstract Impressionist pastel art where the vibrancy and texture of the pastel attracts. I create my art by way of an organic process, and it tends to evolve over a period of time; this leads to every piece being individual and unique. I am greatly inspired by shape, patterns and form; all intricately linked to colour, light and texture. I truly love to create my art and feel that my spirit and love of doing translates into my pictures.
